| After a four years at art school
where he won the Vigiland Memorial Award for best student, John
gained his early experience as a visualiser/designer in London.
In the late sixties and seventies, he worked freelance as a
record sleeve artist. During this period he painted portraits
of many of the greats of blues, jazz and pop music. With over
200 titles his work included sleeve designs for Jimmy Hendrix,
Elton John, Lester Young and the film albums That¹ll Be
The Day with Ringo Star, and Stardust with David Essex.
With the decline of the vinyl record industry, he moved on,
working as a graphic designer in central London, until he
joined the team at River Design in Putney, where he worked
until 2001. Whilst there he rekindled his passion for painting
and illustration, and for the last 3 years this is what he
has done. Now working from his home in Salisbury, he concentrates
primarily on portraits, landscapes and house portraits. He
works mainly in watercolour and oils, most of his work coming
from commissions. John also teaches at Salisbury college.
